Valentine’s Day is a perfect reminder to do something for our friends and family to show that we love them. I love to do something special for the holidays for my son. I always do something for Valentine’s Day – I prefer to keep it simple and not go overboard. I usually get a bunch of his favorite snacks (and try to make them go along with the colors of the holiday) or if I spend more it’s usually something they could use – a hoodie or shoes (same goes with Easter later in the year I usually pick gifts for the upcoming pool season).
When kids are younger it’s very easy to find small toys that they will love. But as they get older, it’s harder to come up with ideas for teens. Roses, balloons or stuffed animals probably won’t go over well.
We originally wrote this post in 2018, and continues to be one of our most popular posts (last updated 1/2023). We expanded the gift guide to be for teens and not just gifts for teen boys. I don’t like having a separate list as gifts aren’t just ‘boy gifts’ or ‘girl gifts’ though sometimes size is a factor.

14 Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas for Teenagers
1. Box of chocolates – who doesn’t want chocolates for Valentine’s Day? You could go with a fancy Godiva box of chocolates. Or find a themed box for their favorite sport or favorite candy such as a Reese’s Valentine’s box.
2. – A basket of their favorite snacks. The way to a teenager’s heart is food. Hot Cheetos, Takis, Sour Patch Kids, bubble gum, and their favorite sports drinks (for Valentine’s Day I usually get the fruit punch flavors because they’re red). Choose varieties with red and pink packaging for an extra festive touch.
- Under Armour fruit punch
- Reese’s Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter hearts
- M&Ms Cupid Mix
- Haribo Valentine Mix Gummie Bears
- Sweethearts Conversation Hearts
- Starburst Hearts
Have you seen the huge box of snacks you can order from Amazon? If your teen is like mine, they’ll think this is the best gift ever. These are also perfect to send to kids away at college or boarding school.
3. Red or pink hoodies – Most teens live in hoodies so a red or pink one is sure to be a hit. Red Nike hoodie or a pink PINK hoodie.
4. Sticker packs – stickers are still so popular with the teens for their water bottles, laptops and anywhere else they can stick them. Enamel pins are also back and popular for backpacks and hats. Get a multipack and they’ll have extras to share with friends.
5. Bath bombs – bath bombs, bubble bath, lotions, perfume, cologne…its all popular with the teens both girls and guys.
6. Portable charger – we love this little portable charge that just attaches to your phone with no cables needed. Also fun is that it comes in red and pink. They also work great to charge iPods.
7. Water bottle. Fill it with Valentine’s candies for extra fun.
8. Red or Pink Crocs – Crocs are once again making a fashion comeback for the teens
9. Red Converse high tops – these are popular with both the girls and guys. Hightops, low, and platform.
10. Pink Ugg booties – UGG booties (ultra mini) are very popular with the teen girls. The neutral colors are hider to find but pink is available and perfect for a Valentine’s gift.
11. Pura Vida bracelets – these are popular with both girls and guys.
12. Squishmallows are still very popular, especially with teen girls.
13. Cozy blanket throw – the checkerboard pattern is popular with teens, red or pink?
14. Fitted hats – Baseball hats will always be a part of the teenage uniform, especially for the teen boys. Fitted hats are in right now, especially those from the limited edition drops from Lids or Hat Club. For the fitted hats, you’ll need to know their size so ask, they will know (they may not know what size clothes they wear but they know their hat size, lol). Even teams without red or pink as their team color, there are drops and collabs with those colors. Or just go with their favorite teams – it doesn’t new to red or pink.
