Camping Packing List – Clothes to Pack

By: Dana Michele

What to pack for camping

One of the many things I love about Arizona is the mountains up north. So much open land in the pine forests to escape for a day of hiking or camping trip. Get out of the city, breathe fresh air and enjoy the cooler temperatures.

Every Labor Day weekend we join a large group of families for our annual camp out weekend. I’ve partnered with prAna to share with you my list of what to pack for camping including a few helpful hints. And even better, prAna has given me a discount code to share with you. More on that at the end of the post.

Camping out in the woods. Dirt. Campfire smoke. Sweat. Well-made clothes that will hold up to the elements and activities is a priority here.

Do research and know where you’re going camping. If it’s at a higher elevation expect cooler temperatures. Check the weather to see what temperatures to expect during the day and the lows at night before planning what to pack.

Make a list of activities that you will be participating in. If you’re be swimming, fishing or kayaking you will want to bring swimsuits and other water gear.

*This list is geared towards car camping. When backpacking, space is a premium and the list needs to be pared down.

What clothes to pack for car camping

Things to consider when selecting what to pack

  • Weather can be unpredictable and change quickly in the outdoors. Layers are nice when the sun starts to set.
  • Quick drying or moisture wicking fabrics are great – look for clothing made by fitness or outdoor manufacturers such as prAna.
  • Clothing that covers you to protect from brush, critters, and sun
  • Non-bulky clothing that packs nicely

Packing tips for camping

Packing Tip #1 – If room allows, pack one extra set of clothes. You never know if you may get stuck in a rain storm, fall in a mud pile or what other adventure you may face so it’s nice to have an extra set of clothes.

Packing Tip #2 – Plan out your outfit for each day. Layout your bottoms, top, and underwear on a flat surface. Fold in clothing and roll into a bundle. Tie with some string. Super easy to pack and to find everything you need each day.

Packing Tip #3 – Since clothes get extra dirty and stinky when camping I don’t like to get them mixed in with my clean clothes. I purchased a pop up hamper that we bring with us. I set it up in a corner of the tent and everyone throws their dirty clothes in there. Once home, everything goes right to the laundry room. Love that it even has a zipper top to keep the orders contained.

The Daria Sweater Hoodie wool/cotton blend sweater is perfect for layering. I love the hoodie and pouch pocket details.

So here’s the exciting part I promised you. Camping, hiking, yoga…what ever your activity check out prAna‘s clothing for women and men. Use code MHMDB15 for a 15% discount on your next order (coupon code is good for 4 weeks). What’s your adventure?

Sustainability is important to me and I was really impressed by prAna’s focus – check it out for yourself
