Choosing Ethically and Sustainably Produced Clothing Over Fast Fashion

By: Dana Michele

This year I have set two goals for my wardrobe

Wardrobe Goals: Choosing Ethically and Sustainably produced clothing over fast fashion.

One: Pair down my closet for a more minimalistic wardrobe.

Two: Choose sustainably and ethically produced brands over fast fashion.

These two goals pair well together. A piece may cost more, but with better quality and a classic design, will be a better value in the long term.

With quality, often comes comfort. Many of my favorite brands use fabrics that feel amazing to the touch. And we all want to feel good and comfortable in our clothes.

Ethical and Sustainable Clothing Brands

Favorite Ethically and Sustainably Produced Fashion Brands

Allbirds – A sustainable brand that started with shoes made from wool. They have expanded their shoe line and have most recently added clothing. I am a huge fan the wool runners, are my favorite shoe to wear day to day. They also make great travel shoes.

Everlane – A classic women’s brand that focuses on selecting only ethical manufacturing partners worldwide.

ABLE – A classic Women’s brand including clothing, bags, shoes, and jewelry. An ethical brand that focuses on employing and empowering women to end poverty. They strive to make their manufacturing process sustainable in the materials they choose and the processes to make the clothing.

Patagonia – A leader in outdoor apparel, Patagonia has always focused on the environment in producing their clothing and using their resources towards good for the climate.

Alternative Apparel – A clothing line of tees and sweatshirts made from soft fabric.

Threads for Thought – A sustainable brand of comfortable clothing made with incredibly soft fabrics.

Boden – A popular brand of women’s and children’s clothing.

Eileen Fisher – A women’s brand that has been around for a while. Known for her classic mix and match pieces made with natural fabrics. My favorites are the linen pieces, a favorite when traveling in warmer climates.

MATE the Label – Ethically and sustainably produced clothing line made from nontoxic, natural, and organic. Tees, tanks, joggers, and dresses. Their fleece cropped sweatshirt and matching fleece sweatpants are tops on my wish list – reviews are amazing and I love the color choices.

I hope the trend continues are more options become available. It would be great to see some at lower price points (but understandably there are challenges to do this).

Would love to hear your favorites.
