Want to get the kids out of the house? A break from electronics? A game that involves exercise and fresh air? A Nature Scavenger Hunt is the perfect solution. For even more fun, create a Build Your Own Trail Mix Bar snack idea with ingredients that can easily be picked up at Walmart.
Gather up the kids, put on some good hiking shoes, grab a water bottle or a hydration water pack and you’re off. Don’t forget to pack the snacks.
Divide your group into teams. Print out the NatureScavengerHunt or even create your own.
We thought it would be fun to take photos of each of the items on the list. A few people in your group probably have a smartphone with a camera making it easy to document your progress. Also it’s better to leave nature undisturbed rather than collecting it as part of the scavenger hunt.
On a recent trip to Walmart, I picked up Goldfish® crackers in addition to the rest of the ingredients for my Build Your Trail Mix Bar.
Build Your Own Trail Mix Bar
Step 1 – Purchase a variety of nuts, dried fruit, and Goldfish crackers. I used Goldfish Whole Grain Cheddar crackers, Goldfish Mix, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, dried apples and dried apricots.
Step 2 – Gather a bunch of bowls and spoons or scoops
Step 3- Add the snacks to the bowls. If you’re feeling creative make up some fun labels.
Step 4 – Give everyone a snack bag to fill with their own Trail Mix creation.
Walmart carries the jumbo cartons of Goldfish crackers which are perfect for the Trail Mix bar or just for snacking. The Snack That Smiles Back®. Get more ideas for meals, snacks, games and family fun when you click here.
