It’s Shark Week!
Discovery Channel’s Shark Week has become so popular and its fun to see all the fun and creative things people come up with to participate in the event. Planning a party inspired by Shark Week? Then a Shark Week inspired cake is the perfect centerpiece.
This was a fun 2nd birthday cake to create. The design was inspired by the birthday party invitation. The cake is iced with light blue buttercream. The blue waves are made from a fondant strip that was cut using a circle cutter. The shark, palm tree, lifesaver and 2 are all made from fondant. The palm tree, 2 and name letters are all cut from fondant using cookie or fondant cutters. My favorite way to keep things vertical on a cake is to attach the hardened fondant piece to a skewer or sucker stick using candy melts. The sand is crushed graham crackers with a bit of crystal sugar.
The cupcakes are super simple iced with light blue buttercream with a fondant shark fin. The fondant is cut in the shape of the fin and allowed to dry a bit before added to the cupcake topper. I love using the foil cupcake liners because of their bright color – perfect for a kids party.
