Chocolate barks make simple but delicious gifts! Teacher gifts, coworker gifts, stocking stuffers. At my sweet shop, I offer a bark for every season. One of my favorite mix-ins is OREO cookies.

Snow Day Chocolate Bark

Ingredients

1 pound dark chocolate flavored a’peels
1/4 pound white chocolate appeals
1/2 package OREO snack size cookie pack (6 OREOs)
1/3 cup mini marshmallows
snowflake sprinkles

Instructions

Step 1: Chop OREO cookies

helpful hint: Place OREOs in freezer. When chilled remove and chop. I prefer to chop each OREO into quarters. Kitchen shears work great for this.

Step 2: Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper

Step 3: Melt chocolates in a microwave or a chocolate melting pot. If using a microwave, melt on 50% power 30 seconds at a time, stir, and repeat until melted. Be careful not to overheat. Once chocolate is melted remaining steps should be done quickly so chocolate does not cool.

Step 4: Gently stir chopped OREO cookies into melted dark chocolate and pour onto baking sheet.

Step 5: Bang sheet on counter to help spread dark chocolate thinly across baking sheets

Step 6: Drizzle melted white chocolate over dark chocolate layer. Bang sheet on counter so that is mixes in with the dark chocolate.

Step 7: Sprinkle marshmallows over chocolate. Lightly press into chocolate.

Step 8: Sprinkle snowflake sprinkles over chocolate.

Step 9: Chill in refrigerator or freezer until set.

Step 10: Remove from the parchment paper and break into pieces.

For gift giving I like to use cellophane bags – they’re food safe and have a nice sparkle to them. I use 4″ x 9″ (with gusset) bags and add about 1/2 pound of the bark to each bag (I use a scale to measure it out). I like to use two colors of ribbon – use a smaller ribbon to tie the bag closed, then add a thicker ribbon looped and tie it on with the smaller ribbon. Trim ribbon and you’re done. You can even tie on a personalized gift tag. Or add bag to a themed takeout container or a tin.

I picked up a few OREO snack size cookie packs at Walmart. These snack size cookie packs also make great stocking stuffers too so I picked up a few other varieties including Double Stuf OREO cookies, Nutter Butters and RITZ crackers.  They’re located in a huge bin near the front of the store.
