Have you heard of the Teal Pumpkin ProjectTM? Have you noticed any teal pumpkins in your neighborhood?
The Teal Pumpkin Project was created by FARE (Food Allergy Research & Education) to help raise awareness of food allergies and promotes have non-food treats so that all kids are involved in the trick or treat festivities.
When I explained the idea to my son he insisted that we participate. My son has food allergies to cantaloupe and walnuts so he’s not limited with common trick or treating sweets but he has lot of friends who have more restricted diets. I purchased a plastic pumpkin (I found this one at Walmart for under $6) – I was going to add the face with black vinyl but this one already have a face, so this made the project even easier. You can also a real pumpkin but I decided I wanted one I could reuse again next year.
I painted a few coats of paint using teal for the pumpkin and metallic gold for the stem. I also printed the Teal Pumpkin project flyer for those to read who aren’t familiar with this idea.
