San Diego Spring Break Road Trip – (part 1 of 3)

By: dmvollmer

Spring Break San Diego road trip

One of my favorite road trip destinations is San Diego. From Arizona its about a 5-6 hour drive. My son was on spring break last week so we decided to escape to the coast for a few days. Booked a hotel on priceline.com and got a great deal for Morgan Run Club and Resort in Rancho Santa Fe.

Headed home #springbreak

We arrived in the evening so our first stop was one of my favorite restaurants The Fish Market in Del Mar. Delicious food and a glass of wine and this was one very happy mom. The Fish Market is very allergy friendly, too and the waitress even brought me some fruit sorbet to try that was amazing.  My son’s favorite right now is fried fish with malt vinegar so he was happy too.

In the morning we headed to the La Jolla Shores for a little beach time before heading to Sea World. Weather was prefect as always.

My son loves all animals and Sea World gives you an amazing opportunity to experience ocean animals up close. Its been a few years since I’ve been at the park so it was exciting to see all the new shows and exhibits.

This trip was partly a belated birthday celebration for my son and one thing he asked for was cake – so I surprised him by taking him to Extraordinary Desserts and told him he could pick out what ever he wanted.  It took him a long time to make a decision with so many choices. He was one happy kid!

The rest of the trip was spent mostly at the beach and tide pools before we had to head back to Arizona for my son’s Little League Baseball game.

New plant pot and I’m in love. As a self describ New plant pot and I’m in love. As a self described #plantmom (or maybe #crazyplantlady 🤣) my collection has been growing but I find it hard to find great pots.

I just got this one from Amazon. Its actually ceramic even though it looks woven. I just posted an Amazon planter roundup on the blog including this one (link in profile)

Cookbook ❤️. I collect them. I read them like Cookbook ❤️. I collect them. I read them like novels. I learn about food, culture, and health. They bring me joy.

I’ve heard many people no longer have cookbooks because they just get recipes on the internet. But I will never give up collecting. I recently purged and am down to about 150. They fill an entire wall of my pantry (my odd 5-sided pantry).

I recently shared my updated pantry organization project on stories which included a peak at my cookbook wall and so many of you shared your love of cookbooks too. This prompted me to write a post sharing My TOP TEN Favorite Cookbooks on the blog today. Check it out - I’d love to hear if you own any of my favorites and what are your favorites.

If you’ve followed us for awhile then you know one of our favorite traditions to going to the @hotelvalleyho for @eatatzuzu monthly Show Stopper Shake creation. We took a break when things got crazy but so excited to back dining at one of our favorites in Scottsdale. This month’s shake is full of Reese’s and Butterfinger goodness. So yummy and $1 of each shake goes to @azhelpinghands which provides essential needs to kids in foster care.

Hello Arizona ☀️🌵 I’ve been living in Ph Hello Arizona ☀️🌵

I’ve been living in Phoenix for 15 years now. We moved from Carlsbad, CA to Phoenix in April of 2006 when B was just a few months old. The desert landscape continues to amaze me. I grew up on the East coast and it’s such a contrast with the all the open space, the mountains, the desert scrub and of course the cacti. Though the saguaros often look like they’re flipping you off 🤣

@butcher_box delivery day is always a good day! 😀

** DEAL ALERT ** When you subscribe to Butcher Box now through April 4th, you will receive 2 lbs of ground beef for FREE in every box for the life of your membership. This is the deal we signed up for last year and love it - perfect for #tacotuesday.

Why we ❤️ Butcher Box:

* the beef is 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef

* delivered right to my door. No trip to the store and I have our meat for the month. Butcher Box has beef, pork, chicken and fish (I love the salmon)

* great for budgeting. My monthly subscription is what I put in our budget for meat each month.

* arrives already individually wrapped and frozen. No prep work to get it ready for the freezer (Too often I’ve had to toss meat because I never got around to prepping it for the freezer).

To get the 2 pounds FREE ground beef for life deal, use the link in my profile (I’ll also link it in my stories).

#flashbackfriday to one of the Easter eggs we made #flashbackfriday to one of the Easter eggs we made last year. At the time this was all new to us and we were trying to figure how to navigate living through a pandemic. Now 1 year later the vaccine is rolling out.

Arizona rolled back most restrictions this week but our family feels its too soon and we will continue to wear masks and only go to business that have safe practices in place. Schools are still requiring masks.

While I am vaccinated it will be a few weeks until my immunity has built up. My son is not vaccinated and because he is 15 he has to wait until they are approved for his age. At this time we don’t have enough information on how effective the vaccine is (especially with the variants) if you’ve been vaccinated and what the possible transmission rate it. A vaccine is never 100% so precautions are always important. So for now, we will mask and distance.
