It’s pumpkin season 🍁🎃 With temperatures still hitting over 100 here, we’ve been slowly easing into a fall decorating and eating. This weekend we baked up a batch of @traderjoes Pumpkin Rolls 😋.

What’s your favorite pumpkin flavored food or drink? I may be in the minority but I don’t care for pumpkin spice drinks. For me top on the list is Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies. Pumpkin bread is another favorite.

Do you (or will you) let your teens listen to music with explicit lyrics? 🎶 I’d love to hear your thoughts.

First, let me say this is a personal decision for each family to make for themselves. There is no right or wrong answer. I think it’s good to to discuss this with both parents. Talk to your teen. Talk to other parents to see what’s their viewpoint. Also, listen to the music that is available for streaming. 2020 rap music (that can be streamed) is very different than the 80s rap I grew up with. Radio was much more controlled.

My first reaction was to say No. But I thought about and changed my mind. Here’s my thoughts and what I’ve told my son. Yes he can listen to it. No I don’t want to hear it - please wear headphones. I’m ok with it as long as he don’t start using those words all the time. If he has any questions about the words or content, please ask me instead of googling it or asking a friend. Some topics are harder than others to explain to your kids, but having open communication with your teens is awesome.

This brings me to another point. Music has been a great way to bring up certain important topics with my teen. Also a great way to connect. Find times to listen to their favorites songs - spending tike in the kitchen cooking together or car rides are a great time to ask your kid to play some of their favorite songs.

I feel its important to start giving kids more freedoms as teens. As kids, I’m sure most of us listened to some music our parents didn’t want us to listen too. But in general, the risk is low and there are a lot of other areas as parents we need to worry about with our kids. Kids are on technology a lot. Its everywhere. If we ban it, most kids will still find a way to listen to it. When its forbidden, some will rebel and use those ‘bad words’ more often. Maybe not around us, but with friends.

Now I’m talking about teens and music. Younger kids, thats different. I even have them set off on my own Spotify account (mine, not my sons). Not because Im offended or embarrassed but I find that I don’t care for the songs where every word is a curse word or body part. Does that make me old?? 🤣

Who loves breakfast?? ✋✋ We’re both fans. Most Sundays I cook a huge breakfast with bacon, hash browns, sausage and sometimes waffles. We also love going out for brunch but we haven’t dined in since March. To celebrate the day off, we got take-out from @snoozeameatery and it was sooooo good. @wheresbnow ate those chocolate chip pancakes so fast 😋 I was so excited to learn the Snooze now has Vegan Bliss Pancakes. I’m not vegan but eat #dairyfree and #eggfree due to allergies. Orange and watermelon juice plus a Bloody Mary for me 😀

How many states have you visited? 🚘✈️ 50 States by 50, can I do it?! #bucketlist

I had plans of several international trips for 2020 and 2021 starting this past March. Unfortunately that didn’t happen. Even as travel opens up more, I’m going to choose car over plane travel for awhile. I decided to count how many states I’ve visited and was surprised the count is 28. I travel a lot to the same states (California and NY) and I thought the number would be lower. I’d LOVE to visit all 50. There’s so much to explore in our own country. Would be a great bucket list before turning 50. Not to rush things, I will give myself to the end of 2021 (I turn 50 in April). Looks like two road trips and then finishing it off with a flight up to Alaska next year. We’ll see, but for now fun to start planning and dreaming.

I have driven across the US twice but didn’t stop to visit so I don’t count those states in my count. Need to stop and visit the sites, the mountains and lakes, the local food - not driving all day, grabbing fast food and crashing in a hotel.

Had fun coloring in my ‘going places’ wood piece from @citizenhd that I picked up at the @madewithlove.market at @santan_village earlier this summer. Excited to color it all in 🇺🇸

We tried the new @artichokepizzaaz in #tempe last night (Arizona’s first location) and we loved it! Made us miss NYC 🏢 We did curbside pickup and had a picnic in the back of our car (because we couldn’t wait to get home to try it).

Who controls the music in your car? Still getting

Who controls the music in your car? Still getting used to B sitting in the front of the car and now he wants to control the music. His music might not be my favorite but I’ve found it to be a great way to connect with my teen and get him to talk about music and life (which isn’t as easy once our kids hit the teenage years). We recently checked out the all-new @lincoln Aviator Luxury SUV and WOW, that's a gorgeous vehicle. We were both wowed by the sound system - Lincoln has partnered with @revelspeakers and with 28 speakers it is very impressive. Now @wheresbnow says he wants an Aviator when he turns 16 (he can dream). I'm daydreaming of taking the Lincoln Aviator for a drive, parking with a scenic view, and turning up the volume for my own private sanctuary (who else has been taking solo drives the last few months as their own little escape?)

#flashbackfriday to first day of 5th grade. He’s always loved to pose for photos😀 Not as much in his teens years but will still do it for mom. Can’t believe how much B has changed. 13-15 is when their bodies change from boys to men. I still have an inc on him for height since I’m 5’9” but he has me beat in shoe size. Already an 11 and I’m sure he hasn’t stopped yet.
