We love family movie nights. It’s fun now that my son is a teen, we can rewatch some of my favorites from growing up (that I saw in the movie theater!). We both get a laugh at how styles have changed but many of the teen storylines are still the same.
80s Family Movie Night with Teenagers
The 80s produced some awesome (or should I say “totally awesome”) movies. I was a teenager in the 80s (graduated high school in 1989) so I saw them all. Not everyone had Cable TV (We didn’t). VCR rental was a newer thing so most of the movies were watched at the theater. Definitely no streaming or DVRs.
- Back to the Future
- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
- Sixteen Candles
- The Breakfast Club
- The Goonies
- Pretty in Pink
- The Karate Kid
- Footloose
- The Goonies
- The Outsiders
Where to find? Try Hulu, Netflix or Amazon Prime. If not you can pay to stream or purchase the movie. These are classics – ask a friend or try your local library as many of us still have huge collections of DVDs (and a few VHS tapes)
The 80s were a different time…
The 80s were a different time and movies definitely were not as PC as they are now. Before we started watching these older movies I talked with my son about it and encouraged him to ask questions. We’ve watched these movies together and if there’s anything that isn’t PC or more of an adult topic we talk about it. It’s always best to encourage open communication.
