The U.S. National Park Service celebrate 100 years today!! All month long there are special celebrations including a FREE weekend.
All National Parks are offering FREE admission August 25th-28th. How awesome is that? Do you have plans this weekend?
How about an impromptu trip spending time discovering National Parks in your own backyard? Here in Arizona, the Grand Canyon is the most famous. But there are lots more – Saguaro National Park, Petrified Forrest, Organ Pipe Cactus, Montezuma Castle to just name a few.
When was the last time you visited one of our National Parks?
One year for Fall Break I surprised my son with a trip to the Grand Canyon. Neither of us had ever been. Yes, living in the Southwest since 1989 I still hadn’t been to the Grand Canyon. My son, a future geologist, had been asking to go so I knew this would be the perfect was to spend our vacation. The drive from Phoenix was really easy and there’s no reason not to plan a trip if you haven’t been.
We hiked the Bright Angel Trail – it was amazing how easily you could hike the trail down into the canyon. Don’t forget, as far as you go down, you must go up which is harder and will take longer so make sure to leave enough time to return by sunset. If you’re not up for hiking, there’s plenty of view points along the Rim trail for amazing sites.
Elk, deer, birds…so many amazing creatures to see everywhere.
One of our highlights of the trip was encountered a family of Elk walking through Grand Canyon Village.
