With the huge success of the recently released movie Finding Dory, there’s going to be a lot of Under the Sea themed birthday parties this year. It’s always been a popular theme because of children’s movies like Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid and just kids who love fish. It’s also a great theme for a pool party.
Under the Sea cakes are fun to make because you keep building on your design with fun elements. First, I add colorful coral and large rocks using different sized round tips. Then I add kelp using a leaf tip. Kids always think the edible sand is cool – I like to use ground up graham crackers or Nilla wafers and add some crystal sugar for extra sparkle. Then I add fish, dolphins, octopi, and shells using fondant molds. For larger shells, I like to make them with white chocolate and use chocolate candy molds.
