One of the most popular meals in our home is steak sandwiches. I’m from Philly and I love a good classic steak sandwich but I decided to step it up a notch and added a few of my favorite flavors to create Jalapeno Bacon Cheddar Steak Sandwiches. Everything is better with bacon, right? And in our home, we love to add a little heat. With the temperatures starting to drop, its the perfect comfort food.
1 pound sirloin steak, thinly sliced
1 package Kraft Natural Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese
6 slices bacon
3 sandwich rolls
salt and pepper
hint: freeze steak a few hours before cooking – remove from freezer and slice. This helps to to make it easier to cut thin slices. Always use a sharp knife.
Step 1 Cook bacon. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Separate bacon and place in a single layer on baking sheet.
Place baking sheet in oven and bake until done (about 15-20 minutes depending on thickness of the bacon) – flip after 10 minutes. Remove from oven and place bacon slices on a layer of paper towels to absorb grease. Baking in the oven is my favorite way to cook bacon – you can also cook the bacon in a pan on the stovetop or a microwave.
Step 2 Thinly slice the jalapeno. Drizzle olive oil in a pan and over medium heat, saute jalapenos until just slightly softened. Remove from pan and set aside.
Step 3 Add steak to pan. Season with a pinch of salt, pepper and chipotle seasoning. Cook, continuously flipping the steak over until the meat is no longer pink. Cook for about 10 minutes (depending on how thick the meat is sliced).
Step 4 Slice open rolls and lightly toast in oven
Step 5 Assemble and serve. Add steak, 2 pieces of bacon, Kraft Natural Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese, and a few jalapeno slices to each roll. Place in a baking pan in the oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese. Enjoy!
On a recent trip to Walmart I picked up a bag of shredded Kraft Natural Shredded Sharp Cheddar Cheese – using preshredded cheese saves a step. It also comes in a convenient zip pak packaging for easy storage.
